Watchdogs Won’t Be Forced On Johnson
Washington AP report: House Appropriations Committee says Lyndon B. Johnson should receive as much Secret Service protection as he wants but cannot be forced into full-time guard duty. The Secret Service sought about 328000 dollars for 35 agents and a clerk to handle the detail, citing a late 1962 law mandating full protection. Previously, protection depended on Johnson’s requests and was not constant.
