The Great Strike at Chicago Packing Yards

The General Executive Board of the Knights of Labor orders fifteen thousand packing house employees at the Union Stock Yards to stop work. Reports say up to ten thousand or more are out, with Armour and Fowler Bros. largely affected. Sheriff and militia guard yards as tension grows, with a new union-free hiring policy announced and no major disturbances reported yet.

Convention of United Presbyterians Meets in Ade City

The United Presbyterians convention met in Ade City at 2 30 in the Penrde church with prayers and business occupying most of the afternoon. Rev J F Morrow of Albany N Y spoke on the duty to maintain the churchs existence and mission and a general discussion followed. The lively proceedings were to be reported in the next sessions.

Mote and Express Transfer Waterfront on Staten Island

A notable transfer of a valuable water front on Staten Island to a western party is reported. ED Cornell, a prominent New York real estate agent, bought the property from local parties for Duke of Devonshire and Buccleuch, major stockholders in Archer steamers, with shipments planned to Barrow in Furness in Scotland.
