Saigon President Nguyen Van Thieu orders police to shoot to kill antigovernment rioters and those who terrorize the city. The directive came as a bomb wounded 24 people at a Gia Dinh restaurant and another firebomb hit a U S contractor vehicle.
Thousands of South Vietnamese reinforcements and U S bombers strike along the frontier to reopen a 30 mile stretch of highway cut by North Vietnamese forces. Lt Gen Nguyen Van Minh reports light ground contact as two North Vietnamese divisions press a three pronged campaign. Tran Hung Dao base near Tay Ninh city faces danger of being overrun.
Sens. James Pearson and Robert Dole announced an 808000 contract awarded to Constant Construction Co. to build a 33000 square foot graphic arts facility at Haskell. Construction to begin in about two weeks with completion planned for next August behind the campus printing shop.

Lawrence and Douglas County voters soundly rejected the 5.64 million government center bond by a 5 to 3 margin, 3 306 to 5 885. Turnout reached 8 722 with some ballots invalidated. The loss occurred across most precincts including North and East Lawrence, while a Hillcrest School precinct in the second ward narrowly supported the measure.
