Ballard Community Center Expands Services Under United Fund
The Ballard Community Center in Lawrence operates a preschool for ages 2½ to 6, an after-school program for K–6, and art and music programs. It also runs emergency aid, a school-supplies scholarship, and outreach for single parents. Despite budget cuts, staff are reduced but services continue. Beginning January 1982 a larger scholarship fund will help more families. The center aims to broaden accessibility and explore surrogate grandparenting for seniors. It serves 72 children daily and relies on United Fund funding plus city revenue-sharing.
