Soviet union offers to join test ban on underground blasts

In New York Andrei Gromyko proposed the USSR join a moratorium on underground nuclear tests alongside the United States and Britain. Car wash and elderly housing plans stalled for study in Lawrence

Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission will study a car wash at the Westridge Sixth and Kasold site as part of a broader review of the final development plan for the project. SCRIP fuel aid leaves funds unused in Topeka Lawrence

Kansas SRS reports more than a quarter of SCRIP funds for elderly and disabled in Topeka and Lawrence were unused when the program ended. About $1,500 will be redirected to home weatherization. Tonganoxie to seek federal flood aid for road repairs

73 year old man indicted in 1963 church bombing

Robert Edward Chambliss of Birmingham was indicted for first degree murder in the 1963 church bombing that killed four black youngsters. He was held without bond after the Jefferson County grand jury handed up the indictments. The church had served as a meeting place for civil rights demonstrators.
