Three booze cars ordered sold at county confiscation
Three liquor vehicles were confiscated and ordered sold by the county at confiscation hearings before Judge Hugh Means in district court. A 1932 Plymouth sedan owned by F. C. Craig of Manhattan was seized after liquor found. he served 60 days in county jail. A 1928 Ford coupe owned by H. C. Fox of Topeka, arrested in Lawrence, faced 17 liquor cases and 70 days jail. A Studebaker sedan driven by Lewis Knight of Lawrence had bottled liquor found. Knight remains in jail. The public sale is set for 2 p.m. October 19 at the courthouse, with Sheriff Fred Vogler conducting.

Lincoln Nebraska September 27 UP Kansas farm population rose by more than 8,000 from 1930 to 1935 according to a farm census from the regional office of the federal relief administration. Farm operators in Kansas in 1935 numbered 174,589 compared with 166,042 in 1930 and 173,098 in 1900.

Coal Miners Will Get Increased Pay
Washington Sept 27. A peace pact ends the soft coal strike in most districts and miners return to work next Tuesday after a wage contract raises pay for nearly all work. The agreement runs to April 1, 1937 and could total about 60 million dollars yearly under 15 cent per ton rise, with 50 cent daily for lay laborers and 10 percent for yardage and deadwork. President Roosevelt praised the pact as signed by union leaders and operators.

A. M. Gardner, winner of the county treasurer race, announced two appointments for his incoming term. Roy Flory will serve as deputy treasurer and Ruth Weldon as bookkeeper, both to begin October 8 at noon. Flory, longtime Douglas County resident, moves from aiding the motor car liability insurance business to finance. Weldon, a Lecompton native, plans to continue current bookkeeping duties at the state highway department until her Lawrence start. The treasurer's office will close until October 8 and for ten days to complete auditing for the transition. Gardner, a Republican, was elected last fall and previously served as deputy treasurer in 1902 and 1933.

A 52 foot traveling museum bus sponsored by the United States Marine Corps and the National Museum of Washington will tour Lawrence starting Monday October 7.
