Enrollment boom drives Lawrence school planning
A Citizens Committee meeting is set for mid October to discuss rapid enrollment growth in Lawrence schools. Superintendent Wolfe notes actual enrollment surpassed 2,494 on Sept 12 and could approach 4,000 by month’s end with late registrations. The new high school at 19th and Lit Sts may house 1,400, but continued growth demands junior high and elementary capacity, with moves from three buildings to Liberty Memorial High School planned and senior facilities facing tight fits for 1954 onward.
