The eighth day travels from Charleston to Sea Island and Jacksonville detail engine repairs and harbor encounters. The voyage along the Intracoastal Waterway passes mangrove flats, live oaks, and pelicans with notes on Cape Kennedy, Betsy damage, and a final six mile canal run to Fort Lauderdale before returning to Kansas City.

University board approves campus projects and extension plan

The board authorized funding for facility upgrades including fluorescent lighting in Lindley Hall and greenstone stabilization at Summerfield Hall. It approved purchasing a station wagon for the Bureau of Child Research and soil hauling near a service drive. Police dog handlers were contracted for home football games. The board also backed forming a state extension commission and authorized $30,000 for consultants on a new $2.2 million auditorium.

Calvin Siebert Named Assistant Professor at Iowa

Calvin Siebert formerly of Marion and holder of two degrees from Kansas University has been named assistant professor in the Iowa University College of Business Administration. He specializes in aggregate economics and has earned a BA in 1958 and an MA in 1960. He recently taught at California University.

Planning Zoning Topic Of Meeting At Voter League

About 135 guests and members of the Lawrence League of Women Voters met at the Episcopal Parish House for a planning and zoning discussion on the proposed zoning code revisions. City officials Richard Raney John Emick and Donald Metzler spoke on the Comprehensive Plan boundaries and the need for study before decisions.

KU Groups Plan Events For Carnival

KU student groups will host booths and skits at the October 9 Student Union Activities carnival. Participating groups include Watkins Hall residents, many fraternities and sororities, and dorms such as Templin Hall and Hashinger Hall. Priest in Good Shape After Alabama Injury

The Rev Richard F Morrisroe a young Catholic priest critically wounded last month in Hayneville Alabama is being treated at Oak Park Hospital. He was flown there from Alabama. Jonathan M Daniels an Episcopal seminarian from New Hampshire was shot and killed in the attack. A medical spokesman said Morrisroe’s prognosis seems to be good.

U S 1st Infantry Division Attacks Viet Cong Fort

A company from the 1st Infantry Division assaulting a Viet Cong jungle fortification in Bien Hoa Viet Nam killed 14 enemy combatants. The Big Red 1 pounded tunnels with recoilless rifles grenades and small arms though five assaults failed to take the position. Mines and snipers wounded 12 Americans before heavy air support drove the Viet Cong to flee into the jungle.
