Regents defer KU medical building plan for study
Regents describe the hearing as part of an ongoing conversation and cut KU’s requested inflation increase from 18.9 to 12.7 million, saying the lower figure aligns with regional inflation. KU sought 5 million annually to help pay off a 78 million medical education building, while the existing facility from 1976 is outdated. The board sent the KU medical building and a vet medicine expansion at Kansas State back for more study, with a plan to forward the project to Brownback’s office later for budget consideration. EU officials call the new building crucial to training more doctors. the board also seeks 3 million for research professors, 1.9 million for a medical scholarship program, and a 2.6 percent increase in student financial aid systemwide.
