Nations agree expedited plan to phase out HCFCs
Nearly 200 countries reached a Montreal Protocol accord to freeze HCFC production in 2013 with rapid cuts by 2020 onward. Developed nations target 75 percent reduction by 2010 and 90 percent by 2015 to final phaseout, while developing nations face 10 percent by 2015 and 67.5 percent by 2025, with full end in 2030. The White House says this halves remaining emissions of these ozone harming gases.
