Fleming to acquire McLain Grocery Co of Massillon Ohio

Fleming Companies Inc announces an agreement in principle to buy McLain Grocery Co a Massillon Ohio wholesale distributor serving 140 IGA stores in Ohio Pennsylvania and West Virginia For the year ending April 25 1981 McLain reported sales of 3189 million and net earnings of 27 million The deal awaits board shareholder and regulatory approval Fleming will issue stock valued at a minimum 225 million for all McLain shares with potential price up to 142 million Fleming also operates IGA stores including Rusty super markets in Lawrence Kansas.

Lawrence School Officials Attend State Conference

Four representatives from Lawrence School District 497 attended a Thursday conference in Topeka on Public Education: The Critical Issues. Supt. Carl Knox, Robert Taylor, Ron Schmidt, and Diane Grant were present. Topics included tuition tax credits, community awareness, communications with the media, and tips for parents. The event was sponsored by the Kansas Association of School Boards, the Kansas National Education Assn., and United School Administrators.
