Lawrence School News Highlights Honor Roll and Welcome Back
Lawrence pupils at Cordley and Lincoln PT A welcomed the new school year with bright classrooms and upbeat notes. Miss Jackson substituted for Mrs. Webster. Mrs. Webster attended a principal’s meeting. Teachers praised Mr. Salisbury for keeping floors and desks gleaming. New first graders Ron Newman and Terry Meyers joined, with many students from out of town. The issue records class rosters, new plant features, a science table, and early construction activity for the new building.

Nobel Prize Awarded to Bunche for Palestine Mediation
Oslo report states Dr. Ralph Bunche former United Nations mediator in Palestine has won the Nobel Peace Prize. The American Negro succeeds Count Folke Bernadotte assassinated in 1948 and helped broker armistice between Israel and Arab states. Prize announced by Norwegian committee. Bunche serves as principal director in UN trusteeship.

Highway J S 40 Through Fort Riley Closed for Repairs
United States 40 through Fort Riley was closed to bus and truck traffic today while patching and resurfacing are done. For about three weeks buses and trucks will detour via US 24 west of Manhattan to Riley and US 77 south to Junction City, while passenger cars may use the fort route for now.

Recruiter to Interview Women in Lawrence Monday
Cpl Jeane Versey will visit the army and air force recruiting station at 109 Massachusetts Street in Lawrence from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to interview women for service careers. Sgt Martin Lane says the visit lasts one day and outlines basic enlistment requirements for WAC or WAF.

South Tower At Fraser Hall Ready For Occupants
