Salina man builds 14-foot submarine Trustworthy
Salina resident Scott Waters, inspired by 20 000 Leagues Under the Sea, has spent five years constructing a 14 foot long steel submarine named Trustworthy. The vessel, weighing 4500 pounds and designed for two, features a high pressure air system GPS sonar and underwater comms and is powered by eight marine batteries. Waters and a team launched it from Milford Marina at Milford Lake and will conduct ballast and pre operative inspections before a dive test.

Center Planned for District Property Near Holcom Park
The district-owned site near Holcom Park at 25th and Iowa districts will host a 30,000 square foot center, funded by a $5.7 million piece of the $92.5 million bond approved April 2. A separate plan envisions an adult training center at HiPer Industries’ 31st and Haskell facility to create one combined center for students and adults. The board will get bond project updates, vote on the 2013-14 goals, and hear a purchasing and printing operations report.

Shell exits Kansas after poor exploratory results
Shell Oil will divest its 45 producing wells and 600000 acres across nine Kansas counties after stopping drilling in July and reviewing exploratory wells. The Mississippian Lime Play, revived by fracking, yielded insufficient potential. Other operators like Chesapeake Energy Encana and Apache have already left Kansas.
