Berry Plastics warehouse back on track near Lawrence
A 60 acre rezoning plan west of the Kansas Turnpike Lecompton interchange aims to build a 21 million Berry Plastics warehouse in Douglas County. The project creates 11 local jobs and 350 construction jobs, strengthens ties to Lawrence, and avoids annexation for tax reasons while delaying other sites. Local officials urge support to advance the project toward reality.

Public Forum: Tax policy and small business impact
Oliver Finney of Lawrence argues that the Obama tax proposal would not harm large small businesses. He uses a scenario where a Sub chapter S business earns 1,000,000 with 600,000 profit and shows how a full equipment deduction under the proposal reduces taxes by about 120,000, enabling asset investment and potential hiring, suggesting benefits to the economy and small business.
