Compromise reached on horse trails at Clinton Lake State Park
State officials backed off a plan to close about 50 miles of horse trails at Clinton Lake State Park. The area will close only during deer and turkey hunting seasons and a few minor trails will be permanently closed. Riders would form a maintenance group to help with brush trimming and erosion control. Local Rep. Tom Sloan praised the compromise as a safety and partnership measure while riders fear reduced riding time during prime season. The hunting-season closure would run from early October to mid January.
