Prague reports official acceptance of the British French plan to meet Hitler's terms. Czechoslovakia agrees to territorial concessions in Sudetenland to avoid destruction, while urging calm as crowds react with relief and fear.
Paris reports Premier Daladier refuses to summon parliament amid rising opposition to the French British partition plan for Czechoslovakia. After Prague signs the terms, Daladier again rejects social and communist calls for a session to critique his stance.
Senator Arthur Vandenberg of Michigan, Republican senate leader and 1940 presidential hopeful, will speak at a Wichita Republican club rally on October 11, club president W. D. Jochems announced today.
London reports Churchill declares partition of Czechoslovakia under Anglo French pressure amounts to surrender to Nazi threat and urges Parliament to convene. Eden warns crisis nears war as Britain readies plan for Godesberg talks with Hitler. Foreign Office operates 24 hours.
Registration at the close of the regular period reached 4142 at the University of Kansas, a record for the opening three days. Officials expect enrollment to hold near last year’s total, with about 4350 by Saturday night and 235 in Kansas City medical school. Freshman class expected to be largest ever. classes end late today and new student convocation planned in Hoch Auditorium. Chancellor Lindley urged steady daily effort and to balance study with play.
In Los Angeles on September 21, a man charged with shooting Mrs. Karl Krueger wife of Kansas City symphony leader Charles E McDonald an unemployed electrician pleaded innocent and innocent by reason of insanity. Judge Clarence Kincaid set trial for October 27 and ordered three alienists to examine him before trial. Mrs Krueger is slowly recovering and may be crippled for life.
Federal income taxes collected in Kansas for the third quarter of 1938 totaled 1,600,274 dollars, down 353,949 from the same period last year. Assistant collector F. E. McMullan said this quarter’s receipts were 80,000 dollars above the second quarter total.
Four women were swept to their deaths when a bridge across the Pistaquoc River gave way and collapsed into flood waters in Weare New Hampshire. Victims identified as Maud Kenney 55 Aura Morse 65 Isadora Lull Gould and Hettie Lull mother.

Charles F. Scott, Iola publisher, died Sunday night and hundreds of friends visited the First Presbyterian church for his funeral. Pallbearers were six members of the Iola Register force, including H. E. Whitaker and L. R. Warner. Visitors included Sen. Arthur Capper and Alf M. Landon.
The coast guard reported at 3 p m that tides were lapping at home foundations in Easthampton and threatening heavy property damage. The Weather Bureau forecast the tropical storm would pass near Long Island and Connecticut later today with winds likely 50 to 60 mph.
Cambridge mass final tallies show Police Officer Thomas Leary defeating Francis J. Corcoran 1165 to 1106 for the Democratic state convention delegate. Leary had entered the ballot by friends while absent and had campaigned to defy himself.

Fay while Fay secures the American Labor party nod, forcing a November faceoff. Wisconsin LaFollette seeks a fourth term with gains for progressive candidates. Primary outcomes leave only a few major races unsettled for the upcoming general election.
Ormand Beach a KU football great and Sarnia Imperials star died when a tank exploded at Imperial Oil plant in Sarnia Ontario. Beach, 27, was atop the tank testing a gauge when the blast occurred shortly after midnight. He weighed 260 pounds and had been with the Imperials since 1934, earning All eastern honors and top Ontario Rugby Football Union player of the year. Beach held a prominent Kansas football career from 1929 to 1934 and married Marguerite Booth in 1936. No other casualties were reported.

James J. Hines, Tammany District Leader, was elected a delegate to the Democratic state convention in yesterday's primary. He ran unopposed and his supporters delivered about 2,600 votes, well above the usual 1,200, despite a retrial looming on policy racket conspiracy charges.
More than 8 000 Scouts and about 1 000 high school band members from across Kansas will be guests of the University of Kansas at the K U Texas football game Saturday. Thirteen Kansas high schools will send bands. 27 bands were invited. The parade starts at 12 30 pm from South Park and proceeds to the stadium where the national anthem will be played. Attendance plus guests could reach 5 000 U S students.

Premier Juan Negrin announced Spain will immediately withdraw all foreign volunteers aiding government forces. He asked the League of Nations to appoint an international committee to verify full withdrawal from the country.

Mrs Peggy Benton 28 Eureka beauty operator died from injuries after a grade crossing crash on Highway 99 outside here. Marshall Lyons of Burns was seriously injured when their automobile collided with a Santa Fe engine near Eureka Kansas on September 21.

E. F. Abels and R. C. Rankin, Douglas County representatives and re election candidates, spoke at a joint meeting of the Douglas County Taxpayers and Farmers Liberty Leagues at the courthouse. Rankin criticized NRA ice code administration and warned of centralized relief funding. Abels questioned relief spending and urged cost-conscious procurement. Willard Morgan read a report from Kansas Farmers Liberty League officials.
Topeka reports grasshoppers are damaging some fields of early wheat though the crop has a good stand in most areas. Winter wheat seeding progressed rapidly with 50 to 75 percent in western counties and 25 to 50 percent in the central region. Soil moisture is sufficient to terminate wheat except in parts of north central and extreme eastern counties. Pastures are in good condition and cattle and lambs moving onto western Kansas wheat pastures are expected to be heavy.
