Abdalah Pasha, a Dammitta commander, was shot by his own troops in Cairo. A general order read at British regiments praised the army and urged discipline, with notes on a coming troop review and extended security measures in the region.
Topeka reports a teen boy named Claras Johnson living in Kansas City died tonight in the city from typho material fever. He is described as light, square built with a mole on the left eyelid and a large scar on the left hip. Parents hoped to be found.
In Saratoga on September 20 the Republican state convention elected Ex-Senator Madden as temporary chair with 18 to 14. Balloting followed with Folger, Cornell, and Wadsworth as leading candidates. After a tense second ballot Folger won the nomination with 257 votes to Cornell 222 and Wadsworth 18, amid disorder and cheers. The convention then adjourned for the day.
Worcester September 20 The Republican state convention was called to order at eleven o'clock. Charles A. Scott was elected temporary chairman. Resolutions were read and discussed as part of the opening proceedings in the gathering of party delegates.
Two freight trains collided this morning at Hamilton wrecking the engine and one car. No one was hurt.
A fire last night in a building owned by Phillip Gear at 68 Oliver Street, used by him as a wood turner and by Liberty Furniture Co., caused about 13900 in losses with 9000 covered by insurance. The incident occurred in Cincinnati on September 19.
Patterson New Jersey September 20 The Democrats of the Fifth district nominated John Pyle for the upcoming election.
The Brownsville Record notes fourteen new cases on September 20 with no deaths. The city remains full of Mattamoras people, signaling continued population movements and health concerns.
