Soviet scholars welcomed at annual conference on Soviet area studies

The conference chair welcomed Soviet scholars noting the field’s long study of the Soviet phenomena shaping Western foreign policy. Speakers included Dr. Howard Swearer of UCLA and academics from Washington University, London University, KU, and Indiana University. Chancellor Wescoe spoke at lunch.

Take-Off Halted On Runway At Kansas City Airport

A Trans World Airlines propeller plane halted at the north end of the Municipal Terminal during a take-off run for San Francisco. Forty seven passengers and six crew members were evacuated after two left main tires blew out and the brakes froze. Captain S. M. Kasper, the pilot from San Francisco, said he aborted the take-off midway.

Douglas County teams win top honors at Kansas State Fair

Two home economic judging teams from Douglas County captured premier awards at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson on Tuesday.
