Murder trial postponed in Lecompton shooting
The second degree murder trial of Samuel Mutfwang is postponed for a second time and will start at 9 a.m. on October 7 in District Court before Judge Jack Murphy. Mutfwang, 46, was arrested in January after his estranged wife Cinnamon Mutfwang was shot to death at her Lecompton home. Deputies found him in his car outside the trailer minutes after the shooting report. An innocent plea was entered April 28. The defense seeks to use a psychiatrist's testimony to argue heat of passion versus premeditated intent and whether voluntary manslaughter should apply. The state maintains a speedy trial deadline and that the jury can assess emotions without expert testimony. The hearing on the psychiatrist's admissibility has been rescheduled for Wednesday.
