After floods, most fishing sites have returned to normal and bass were reported at Shawnee County lake with Lone Star a solid producer. Channel and flat head fishing may peak late September into October if conditions hold, while dove hunting is strong as northern birds move in.
Detroit General Motors restarts limited passenger car output at its Oldsmobile plant in Lansing and GMC Truck and Coach in Pontiac after a wave of wildcat strikes. Local agreements at Linden New Jersey and other plants boost hopes for a national GM contract. The UAW council meets Wednesday to approve or reject the deal as 6,000 GM of Canada workers face furloughs in Oshawa.

Thirteen of fifteen Episcopal clergymen jailed on breach of peace desegregation convictions were freed on $500 bond in Jackson Mississippi. Rev. Robert L. Pierson read a statement on the jail sidewalk, saying the men were arrested for a pilgrimage of prayer to testify to the church and would not submit to immoral laws that require racial separation.
