German Spy Sentenced to Firing Squad in Cuba
Havana reports Heinz August Luning a 31 year old German spy captured by Cuban police was sentenced by a special tribunal to death by firing squad. Authorities said he confessed extensive espionage including coded radio messages on ship arrivals and departures in Cuban harbors. Luning, a Bremen native and former Hamburg merchant, arrived in Cuba on September 29, 1941.
