Adolf Hitler declares no war aim against England or France and says Russia and Germany will settle the Polish question to reduce tension. He vows to continue fighting if forced, rejects surrender, and recalls Mussolini's peace efforts while blaming Britain for ultimatums.
London reports a British government statement denounces Hitler Danzig address as full of crass misstatements. It says the talk proves his conviction before the world and accuses him of pursuing war while breaking promises to deter Britain from fulfilling treaties.
Adolf Hitler intensified his speech in Danzig criticizing the Versailles settlement as stupid and misjudged. He urged German rights to reclaim lost Polish territories and condemned Allied leaders as prowar, stating Poland chose war. Albert Forester introduced him.
Paris reports France will pursue the European war with Britain despite the Soviet invasion of Poland. Colonial troops mobilized and French lines bolstered at the Maginot defenses as Britain and France pledge support to Poland and consider neutral-country diplomacy.
President Roosevelt plans a Thursday joint session address to outline the neutrality law and related actions. Early indicated the message will be drafted today and delivered in person on opening day, with coordination among House and Senate leaders. Andrew Schoeppel, chairman of the state corporation commission, notes Oklahoma New Mexico Michigan Arkansas and Louisiana have agreed to maintain post shutdown limits this month and may lift in October. Texas has already partly restored its cut.
More than 75 civic and industrial leaders from eastern Kansas and Kansas City, Mo., gathered in the Crystal room of the Eldridge hotel to hear tentative plans for the National Cornhusking contest to be held November 3. Berlin reports a major Wehrmacht triumph north of Lodz in the eastern campaign. A high command communique says German forces crushed Polish troops, describing a strange tunnel of encirclement with German units ringed by Poles and then by other Germans.
Former candidate Alf M. Landon and Col. Frank Knox voiced the belief that the country generally favors keeping out of the European war. They spoke in Chicago en route to Washington after accepting Roosevelt's invitation to discuss the crisis.
Mrs. Rose McKibben aged 60 of Los Angeles died in a Holton hospital from injuries in a car crash two miles north of Mayetta Kansas. Passengers Joe McVey and Glee Maud both of Los Angeles were seriously injured when the car struck a culvert on the highway at about 6 a.m.

Reports from across the Polish border say a pro German pro Russian regime may replace President Moscicki and other Polish leaders who are refugees in Romania. A peace pact with Germany and Soviet Russia is forecast, with Poland’s borders redrawn into a German Russian buffer region.
Kenneth Bliss, 22, a farmhand and native of Tone Kansas, pleaded guilty in district court to the murder of Mrs. Ethel Streets, 59, Canton, Ta. widow. The plea was entered in the September session.
The stock market average of 60 shares stood at 52.4 yesterday up from 50.8. Trading included notices about Washer Service Green Bros and Ady.

A note found by a customs officer at the Sweden Norway border claims Charles Backman, a 27 year old Swedish pilot, crashed in mid ocean during a May solo flight from St Johns Newfoundland. The author warns aid is needed within three days and confirms Backman’s name and identity. Backman once lived in St Louis and Chicago and flew a single engine horspower plane with no radio.
Polish resistance to the German onslaught reportedly dwindled to three widely separated forces at Warsaw, along the San River near Lwow, and between Bialystok and Pinsk. Defenders faced severe conditions with little air support as government leaders fled toward Bucharest.

Robert Musica brother of F Donald Coster Philip Musica pleaded guilty in federal court to mail fraud conspiracy and securities act violations. Judge William H Barrett set October 3 for sentence. Musica held a minor post at McKesson and Robbins Inc once headed by a Philip exposed as a convict.
