Leavenworth Kan Sept 18 An immense blaze consumed Rash Sprague flour mill the largest in the state after fire was discovered in the cellar near the office. Despite five streams of water the building collapsed through the floors and roof. Loss estimated 100000 with insurance uncertain. The mill had 600 barrels daily capacity and was recently remodeled. The fire likely started by spontaneous combustion and damaged adjacent property.
Sanpy Hook New Jersey September 17 to 18 reports rapid progress of racing yachts near Scotland Light Ship. Genesta leads early while Grayling and Fortuna duel. Genesta finishes first at 3 38 58 PM to win the Douglas Cup for schooners with Grayling second at 3 51 15 PM and Fortuna close behind.
