Teen Convicted in Kansas City Skateboard Rivalry Killing
A Wyandotte County jury convicted 17 year old Stephen Reed of intentional second degree murder and possession of a firearm by a juvenile for the April shooting death of 16 year old Ryder Spillman near an elementary school in Kansas City Kansas. Prosecutors cited a rivalry between skateboarder groups as the motive. Reed's defense argued self defense. Reed faces an adult sentence from about 12 to 54 years.
