Sayers Inspires Troops and Students With Life Lessons
In Kuwait City Gale Sayers spoke about the grit of soldiers and his belief in education. He recalled wearing a T shirt in extreme heat as troops in flak jackets carried M 16s and said the visit was kept quiet for security. He urged recruits to value college degrees, noting many players never reach the pros and urging preparation to quit with education in hand. He described his own path from KU to pro football, finishing his degree and earning a master’s, and emphasized that football fame is fleeting without schooling.
