Homes for murdered women's families spark anger in Chihuahua
The Chihuahua government pledges 47 free houses for families of women killed in a string of sexually motivated slayings causing backlash over perceived leniency. 340 women have died in Ciudad Juarez in the past decade, many survivors sexually assaulted and dumped in desert, as 90 percent of victims. The 235 square foot concrete tin homes sit on surrounding lots valued with political timing as new government to take office in October.

Russia criticized for impeding media coverage
The OSCE media freedom office says Russian authorities detained and harassed reporters covering the Beslan school siege, confiscated video tapes, and delayed truthful information, sparking attacks on journalists by locals who believed reports were misleading. The watchdog calls this a serious democracy drawback and notes a triple credibility gap among government, media, and citizens.
