Retailers oppose sales tax switch delaying plan in Kansas
At a Lawrence meeting Kansas leaders urged staying the course as retailers confronted a complex system with 751 taxing jurisdictions. Wagnon said the proposal could confuse and burden stores while Boise Hess warned the kinks may shutter local shops. Officials outlined costs for updating software and a department booklet to guide tax rate calculations.

President Bush pushed a third tax-cut round to counter attacks on job growth ahead of next year’s election.
