City of Lawrence and Douglas County pitched a $5 640 000 bond election for a new government center at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast. About 100 members attended as officials outlined costs and future savings while stressing cooperation between city and county.
A group of Topeka residents filed a BEW HEW complaint alleging the Topeka School District misused federal funds for 1971 72. They claim the aid plan fails to meet community needs and that the advisory board is improper since not all its members are parents of disadvantaged students.
Area merchants will hold a Moonlight Madness sale Tuesday from 7 to 10 p.m. in cooperation with the chamber. Bob Zimmerman urged Lawrence merchants to join the promotion, saying its success depends on active participation.

Lippitt receive the awards funded by a 55 000 endowment from Howard Hank Crawford in memory of his father. Crawford a former GM vice president active KU donor and longtime university supporter was honored at commencement and serves on the Endowment Association and Business School advisory boards.
Rep. Garner E. Shriver will conduct an opinion poll among Kansas State Fair attendees in Hutchinson about President Nixon's economic strategy. The fourth district representative aims to gauge public reaction during the event.
Haskell Indian Junior College officials investigate the death of Wayne LeRoy Pinkham a 19 year old freshman from Cayuse Oregon ruled an accident by Douglas County Coroner Dr Laurance Price. He fell about 10 feet from Jackie s Bar back stairs Sept 3 and died after a critical week. The college collects statements from students staff and medical records and will send the report to the Bureau of Indian Affairs Anadarko okla and the family.
Lawrence Indian Center calls for volunteers to join an organizational meeting at 7 30 p m Monday in the Army Building 946 N H, to elect officers and plan fundraising events. Coordinator Karl Talawyma aims to aid over 65 married students at Haskell Indian Junior College and coordinate a sponsor link program with HJC students.
Official 1971-72 Lawrence school district enrollment is 7 897, down 151 from 8 048 and the fourth straight decline. High school gains contrast with declines at junior high and elementary levels. Sunflower closure and in/out mobility cited as possible causes.
Flowers from the division of continuing education honored the Kansas University traffic and security office in Lawrence for courtesy and helpfulness. The bouquet recognized employees who handled distribution of parking permits and registration stickers amid unusual fall conditions.
James Shaffer press secretary to Gov. Docking denies any decision on Kansas Supreme Court appointment. He says the governor has not chosen and will announce if a choice is made. Shaffer rejects Star report naming Perry H. Owsley as appointee.
Jose Gregorio Mendez a 17 year old from Pharr Tex remains in fair condition at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a Turnpike accident Wednesday. Driver Antonio Mendez 46 also of Pharr was released this morning. The pickup truck camper was west bound when the right rear tire blew out causing loss of control and a rollover injuring four other passengers all from Pharr.
