Savings and Loan Institute Set at Kansas University

The 7th annual Savings and Loan Institute for Junior Executives will be held at Kansas University October 12 to 14. Sponsored by the Kansas Savings and Loan League and the University Extension, seventeen leaders in the field plus five University staff will staff the program. It offers a three year study sequence with the third year as a workshop to tackle industry problems.

Girls Scouts Honor Memorial Fund With Small Donations

Fourteen sixth grade Girl Scouts from Hillcrest Lawrence Troop 123 gave $1 each to the Helen Talbot Waggoner Memorial Fund in honor of Mrs. Waggoner’s service as Troop co leader from 1959 to 1961. The gift was presented to Chancellor Wescoe and Irvin Youngberg of the Endowment Association. Mrs. Waggoner, wife of Dean George R. Waggoner, died Tuesday at KU Medical Center. Fire destroys store. rebuild planned at same site

Damage exceeds 200000 dollars as a blaze damages all three floors of the store. Firefighters limited spread with a north sprinkler system while water damage remained extensive. Bus Wreck Injures Driver and Teens on Kansas Turnpike

A Wichita church bus overturned on the Kansas Turnpike nine miles north of Wellington after a right front tire blew out. The driver Jake Hartmetz 28 and at least a dozen teens were injured. Two cars collided at the scene injuring five more.

Civil Air Patrol Searches For Missing KC Banker

Civil Air Patrol planes resumed the search for John F. Parker a 42 year old Kansas City investment banker missing since Wednesday. Parker left Kennett Missouri at about 930 a m reporting flying under clouds at 1600 feet in terrible weather. He is the father of five and was last heard after receiving a weather report from the Vichy tower. Fourteen CAP planes policed the route from Vichy to Kansas City and ten miles each side Friday.

Judge Rules Mistrial In Attempted Rape Case

A mistrial was declared in the case of Roman Catholic priest Rev. John F. Fell charged with assault with intent to rape Maria American Guerra, a Pan American College student, at Sacred Heart Church in Edinburg. The jury was deadlocked after testimony.
