Lawmakers Fault Goals In Kansas Higher Education Grants
Lawmakers criticized the Kansas Board of Regents quality performance goals used to award 13.9 million dollars in higher education grants for the fiscal year starting July 1. Rep. John Ballou and Rep. Rocky Nichols urged clearer, more measurable targets, warning that goals must justify funding and not merely boost budgets. Regent Kim Wilcox defended the plan, noting schools set their own goals under state law, while acknowledging some goals were set low to fit funding limits.
