County proposes surveillance cameras after bid concerns
Ri Hempen proposed installing surveillance cameras earlier this year due to safety issues in the treasurer's office. Initial bidding brought one quote, prompting county commissioners on July 2 to seek additional bids. Nieder warned against relying on a single bid, leading Hempen to solicit three new offers from Lawrence companies Overfield Security, Rueschoff Security, and Surveillance Tech.

Sprint PCS seeks mono pole tower to replace city tower top
Representatives from Sprint PCS discuss a proposal to replace the Judicial and Law Enforcement Building tower with a Sprint built mono pole east of the current unit after learning the county tower cannot support extra equipment. The county will only hear the proposal and no decision is made at this meeting. The agenda also includes contracting for leased copiers, a community corrections grant request of about 66 000 from the Kansas Department of Corrections, a tribute to Wayne Kellum retiring Sept 19 who has served since 1970 as zoning and building codes manager. County staff note Kellum’s replacement process may take weeks to months. Other agenda items include appeals on road frontage and private road easement variations and change orders for three projects coming in 10341.04 under budget.
