Chappell backs larger tower notification area in county
Douglas County commissioners delayed approval of amended tower rules, noting 1,000 foot notices for towers. They urged the Planning Commission to reconsider expanding the notification radius to one mile, citing nuisance concerns and sleep disruption from tall towers with blinking lights.

County probes road vacation dispute amid upcoming site visit
About 45 Lecompton Township residents attended a Wednesday meeting over vacating a detested road that bisects Jim and Elaine Roose 10 acre tract. Opponents say vacating leaves them stranded during floods while Roose side seeks to build a home. County Engineer Hempen notes no clear official opening, and aerials since the 1930s show no road. Attorneys say orange stakes mark a contested right of way crossing the Boose property linking East 250 Road and East 225 Road near North 2150 Road, two miles south of the Kansas River. A health and safety argument favors keeping the road open for nearby properties when Scenic River Road floods. one option is raising Scenic River Road to railroad track level to restore access, with a public hearing set for Oct 18 after a session on Oct 16.
