Pierce Earns 20th Victory Just in Time
CHICAGO Billy Pierce of the Chicago White Sox earned his 20th win in a 4-3 10 inning victory over the Boston Red Sox. The left-hander spoke of reaching the milestone at the right moment and became the first White Sox pitcher to win 20 since 1941. Pierce, 29, had previously flirted with 20 wins in 1953 and 1954 and this season he reached the goal during a crucial stretch in the pennant race.
