Young Lawrence boy builds own hovercraft at 13
Daniel Zehr, 13, from Lawrence, built a working hovercraft with parts scavenged from junkyards and his father. The 4 by 8 foot craft lifts a 200 pound load on a cushion of air, powered by a 0.5 horsepower motor, and is steered only by pushing. He plans a second, gasoline powered craft using a mower motor and junked fan. Daniel aims to be an aerospace engineer and encourages persistence in science and invention.
