Court rules for used carpet store in sign clash

Lawrence Municipal Court found a key part of the city sign ordinance unconstitutional in a dispute with Big Bob's Used Carpets. The ruling allows the store at 738 N.H. to keep its red white and blue striped wall paint as a sign while city officials plan a study session to clarify the ordinance. Owner David Elyachar called the decision uplifting, but city officials will continue enforcing current rules in other cases. The decision labels the sign provision as overbroad and vague, potentially affecting other cases and prompting a push for guidance from the Lawrence City Commission.
