Leonard Eugene Jarrett 30 of 626 Elm pleaded guilty to illegal delivery of THC, a misdemeanor, after a June 16 drug raid led by Frances Kennedy. He received six months in jail with work release. Floyd L. Mathews 29 of 743 Ash pleaded guilty to illegal delivery of marijuana and drew a one year sentence. A third man was released after charges dropped. Kennedy testified she bought a pound of marijuana for $200. Cairo AP President Anwar Sadat will visit the United States in late October following Sinai settlement talks.
Col. Richard Curl of the U S Army Corps of Engineers Kansas City district reports Clinton Lake is 57 percent complete with two nine hour shifts on the 58 million dam to finish by 1978. He outlines five major area projects including Hillsdale Lake administration facilities for a 47 million dam and visitor totals at Perry Pomona lakes.
A six hour uprising at the Tennessee State Prison in Nashville left ten inmates shot and 28 others injured as fires looted supplies and clashes erupted after a dinner dispute. Up to 350 inmates joined the melee, with police and state troopers restoring order.
Kansas farmers face ongoing drought as late August rains yield modest gains for sorghum and soybeans while corn remains stressed. The Crop and Livestock Reporting Service forecasts 137.3 million bushels of corn, 148.5 million of sorghum, and 21.42 million of soybeans for the state, all down from August except soybeans unchanged from last month.
Specifications for the first of several small bid packages to propel the Kansas University Medical Center clinical facilities building are set for release to contractors on September 29. Senate testimony details Lockheed Aircraft Corp payments totaling 106 million in commissions to Adnan Khashoggi for Saudi sales. Executives testified Khashoggi urged bribes to officials and that some payoffs were made directly to Saudi officials, including a 14.8 million transfer to the Saveria Establishment Swiss account in 1974.
