The forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies and cool temperatures in northeast Kansas with showers and thundershowers today and tonight. Low temperatures retreat to the upper 40s tonight, with highs in the mid 60s to low 70s tomorrow and northerly winds 5 to 14 mph. Secretary Elwin M. Shanahan announced 2707 articles of incorporation filed in 1973 to Sept. 7. Of these 2707, 1879 are Kansas firms, 373 are non profits, and 545 originate outside Kansas, with $149,540 in fees collected so far.
Lawrence officials postponed action on Haskell Avenue sidewalks from 15th to 23rd for a month after about 25 residents protested the need and boundaries of the benefit district and the assessment rate. They kept other sidewalk matters on the agenda including Engel and 11th street projects and various city improvements.
Kansas University pays tribute to A. R. Bert Kennedy, KU football coach 1904 to 1910, during halftime against Washington State. Clyde Walker announces the Hall of Fame honor. Walter Cragan presents a plaque to Kennedy’s son Ted as the band performs a salute to KU.
