Lawrence Forecast Quiet Rain Chance With Mild Highs

The forecast calls for a morning shower risk with lingering showers ending by afternoon. Mostly cloudy skies persist as temperatures reach 74 degrees, with overnight lows around 55. North northwest winds at 5 to 10 mph.

Change of Heart Receives $5,000 Grant

Change of Heart, the Lawrence homeless community newspaper, has been awarded a $5,000 grant by the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation in Oklahoma City. The funds will boost production and distribution for the quarterly paper published by the Coalition for Homeless Concerns since 2005. About 1,000 copies are printed each quarter to give a voice to homeless residents.

Kansas foxes heading to S Dakota hope reintroduction

Dozens of swift foxes from western Kansas were trapped and relocated to South Dakota where the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe plans reintroduction on its reservation. Biologist Shaun Grassel leads the effort supported by Turner Endangered Species Fund and Badlands National Park. permits from Kansas were obtained after a feasibility study begun in 2004. The project aims to restore the small canines to a historic range now lacking them on the reservation.
