Firefighters honor fallen hero at final service before anniversary
In a Bronx church firefighters paid tribute to Peter Bielfeld, 44, a 19 year NYC firefighter killed at the World Trade Center. More than 1,000 firefighters in dress blues joined family and friends for his send off as bagpipes echoed nearby. His casket was transported on a vintage firetruck past a mural in his honor. He left a note for loved ones and headed into the rescue effort. This was the last service before the Sept 11 anniversary.

Remembrance ceremonies mark 9/11 with somber rituals
Thousands gather in Pennsylvania to observe the 9/11 anniversary at the field near the Flight 93 crash site with a 10:06 a.m. CDT moment of silence and victim name readings as bells toll. Observers debate whether speeches aid healing as Bush visits the disaster sites and plans an Ellis Island address with the Statue of Liberty as backdrop.
