Lawrence police investigated multiple crashes on Wednesday with two minors hurt in initial incidents. Three people treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. seven other crashes caused major property damage as deputies logged 11 more incidents.
Douglas County Commission chair Travis Glass said a joint city county maintenance garage is probably remote due to differing equipment and work types. He noted possible equipment interchange such as the city’s striping machine and the county’s crane, plus talks of a consolidated sign shop.
AP log records Kansas traffic fatalities for 24 hours to 9 a.m. Thursday and totals for September and the year 1969. It notes four previously unreported deaths among the figures, with 504 deaths in 1969 and 30 for the comparable 1968 period.

In Kansas City 52 former directors attended the September Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City board meeting. The 25 invited alumni from bank and branch offices in Denver Oklahoma City and Omaha renewed acquaintances and learned of current Fed policies and operations. Dolph Simons Journal-World editor praised the gathering.
At a conference on campus disorder legal aspects KU student body president David Awbrey argued outside forces threaten university policies. Attorney General Frizzell pledged support for legitimate student efforts while opposing illegal activity. Kansas law enforcement leaders and six state universities participated.
Ronald H. Means 27 of Eudora bound over to the November term on felonious assault charges against a peace officer after a Wednesday preliminary hearing. Bond cut from 5000 to 1500. disturbance at East Eighth tied to an automobile accident. Means allegedly struck Officer Gale Pinegar in the chest. Other bound overs include Guy D. Hamilton 19 and Jane E. Danner 20 of New Orleans on marijuana possession charges with 1500 bonds. Two others face Friday hearings. Merriweather 18 with malicious destruction of property set for Sept. 30. All remain free on bond.
Semon Knudsen announced his resignation as Ford Motor Co president after Henry Ford II asked him to leave. He said Ford informed him Tuesday that he would be departing due to unresolved issues. Ford named three presidents to replace him.
Elaine Smith a Kansas University student from Elmhurst Illinois had 1622 dollars worth of clothing stolen from her car parked in the Ramada Inn lot in Lawrence. Police recovered the car with pry marks and the clothing missing after a theft between 3 and 5 a.m. on Wednesday.
Independent stations raised regular gas from 24.9 to 33.9 cents as a summer gas war faded. A child injured by an abandoned stove in Lawrence remained in fair condition at KU Medical Center after a Sept. 2 backyard accident. A Colorado nuclear blast and seismograph readings sparked uncertainty at KU. Douglas County Red Cross has collected 2,680 dollars toward a 3,315 dollar Camille relief goal.
GM announces an average car price increase of 119 dollars raising the typical price from 3070 to 3189, with 38 dollars of the rise due to converting options to standard features. The change ranges by model from 98 to 199 dollars, cites higher labor and material costs and taxes as main reasons, and notes several models gaining standard equipment.
Soviet premier Alexei Kosygin conferred with Chinese Premier Chou En-lai in Peking in a mutually agreed, constructive meeting. Radio Moscow cited Tass dispatches saying both sides explained positions and held a useful conversation without details.
