Boomerang Wing Aims To Speed 1970s Jets
At Edwards Air Force Base NASA plans a 1.8 million dollar project testing a boomerang shaped wing on an F8A jet to raise cruising speed to just under 660 mph at 45000 feet without more fuel burn. Flight tests could start late 1970 with service jets by 1974. The design reduces drag and buffeting and could boost efficiency about 25 percent.
