Funeral services for Melvin W Cotton Goff 62 longtime local car salesman will be held Friday at Rumsey Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. He lived at 1725 Vt St and was WWI veteran group commander of Jayhawk Barracks. Separate services will be held for Oliver C Weeks at National Cemetery Fort Leavenworth. he died Sunday and is survived by a son Leonard Weeks and daughters Mary Barilleaux Betty Pendas plus seven grandchildren and several brothers and a sister.
Ernest Dusty Robinson of 751 Grant Street died Tuesday night at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Born in Lawrence, he was a lifelong resident. Funeral services to be announced by Bowser Lee Mortuary. Survived by two sons Elmer and Nathaniel. two stepdaughters Mrs Wiley and Mrs Bryant. four cousins Marshall Woody, Raymond Woody, and Ben Robinson with spouse. one uncle Andrew Robinson. and several grandchildren.
Rosa Bell Asher, 83, a Lawrence resident since 1936, died Tuesday at Douglas County Convalescent Home after a period as patient. Born July 14, 1878 in Missouri, she graduated from Missouri Wesleyan College in 1923, attended Kansas University, and worked for the KU library. Funeral 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rumsey Funeral Home with Rev. Harold G Barr in charge, followed by Degree Rebekah Lodge No. 4 services. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. There are no survivors.
Chinese Premier Chou En-lai asks Nehru to withdraw trespassing Indian troops and administrators and restore the boundary. Beijing vows to respect Bhutan and Sikkim protectorates and seeks to settle the dispute through friendly negotiations, while denying the MacMahon line.

Lawrence High School football faces injury woes as two left halfback prospects, junior Chuck Lanning and senior Gary Motikes, are sidelined with knee and back injuries. Coach Woolard praises the effort and optimism remains high despite setbacks.
Delaware the next four years as part of a campaign to pick off Southern states one by one. The South should unite with pro segregation Citizens Councils to fight attempts at integration. Barnett told a Citizens Courier meeting in Jackson Mississippi that moderates are burglars and must not steal their heritage. Meanwhile two FBI experts moved to Little Rock to aid the investigation of three bombings tied to token integration. A $25,000 reward was posted for the bombings. In Nashville Judge Miller urged public school officials to voluntarily integrate and gave a week to submit a plan. Only three Tennessee systems have started integration in Oak Ridge Clinton and Nashville.
Nelson did not oppose a one week delay and the project for curbings and gutters on East Eleventh Street was abandoned after residents voiced concerns about higher costs. Parking bans were approved on East Fifteenth Street and parts of Haskell to reduce traffic near the school. All bids were rejected and the commission will hold an extra session next Tuesday with county commissioners and board of education invited to discuss mutual concerns.

TOPEKA AP The State Highway Commission will resume advertising for bids on interstate highway construction on at least a limited basis following Congress approval of a one cent federal gasoline tax increase. Kansas had held up $2,930,000 in interstate contracts awaiting federal funds and said bids may proceed with payments contingent on funds. The commission plans more bid advertisements within two weeks.
The Senate approved a bill authorizing the Treasury to strike up to 20,000 medals commemorating Kansas statehood centennial in 1981. sponsor Andrew Schoeppel said material and labor costs would be charged to the Kansas Centennial Committee, which would sell medals to the public.
Project Mercury director said surviving the severe reentry heating marks a major step forward in evaluating heat protection. Admiral Harry Smith noted two destroyers rushing to the spot while details of the recovery were not fixed. The Atlas booster failed to drop off, leaving the main body short of its target and about 2000 miles down the Atlantic range. Astronaut candidate Alan Shepard Jr. watched the launch, as one of seven Navy flyers who may be first American in space.

The Senate kept session late to receive the Appropriations Committee bill and delay action until Saturday under Senate rules. Morse blocked required stay waivers while the panel cut House totals and added a rider to extend the Civil Rights Commission. Johnson expects Senate action on a water pollution bill Eisenhower opposes. The House approved an 100 million program but the Senate trimmed to 80 million. A separate measure passed 86 to 1 to raise rates on Series E and H bonds with an Anderson amendment limiting the increase to 4.14 percent.
In Mexico City a plane from Mexico City to Merida suffered an explosion that blew out a door near Nautla at 14 000 feet. A passenger Eugenio Polovsky of Mexico City reportedly jumped from the opening as fire broke out. six passengers and two crew members were lightly burned. The craft landed at Poza Rica with minor damage. Mrs Polovsky said her husband, of Russian descent, seemed nervous before departure on a business trip to Villahermosa.
Kay Kendall the British film star who died Sunday of leukemia was buried today beside St. John's parish church. The 32 year old wife of actor Rex Harrison lay near Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree and George du Maurier. Harrison asked for no flowers and donations to the Imperial Cancer Research Fund in lieu of tributes.

Randolph Gray former financial secretary of UAW Local 12 in Toledo testified before the Senate Investigating Committee that some UAW officers pressured him to lie about dishonest financial transactions in the union. He said he cracked up as pressure mounted while detailing handling of Toledo funds by UAW vice president Richard T. Gosser. The committee's counsel flagged a suit against Gosser alleging misconduct, described as fraudulent by Paul Tierney, with the suit later settled out of court.
University officials outline dorm capacity and plans for the coming term. Varsity House and McCook Halls may not be permanent dorms unless enrollments surge, with 24 and 30 beds respectively. Stouffer Place houses 240 families, Sunfinity apartments reduced to 54, and several wood frame buildings to be razed. Templin Hall and 432-bed twin project on schedule for second semester. overall KU dorms serve 1,125 women and 1,350 men with named residence and scholarship halls listed.
