Kansas Deaf students protest return of fired teachers
Kansas School for the Deaf students protested the potential return of two fired teachers after the March death of Justin Barnett, with walkouts and crowded steps at the administration building. The State Board of Education panel recommended Marsh reinstatement while Kurz was approved for return, though families and students questioned the move and its impact on trust and school climate.

Drunken driver given 25 years for second fatal crash
Edward W. Lewis, 38, of Whitewater, was sentenced by Harvey County Judge Theodore Ice to more than 25 years for involuntary manslaughter in the December death of 17 year old Karrie McCormick. Lewis previously faced a 1986 vehicular homicide conviction for a Franklin County crash that killed two men, with blood alcohol at 0.2457 percent after the Harvey County crash. The sentence exceeds state guidelines, justified by Lewis's refusal to control alcohol and drugs.
