City Commission Keeps University Place Traffic Circle In Place
Lawrence officials decided to keep a temporary traffic calming circle at 17th and Illinois, despite neighbor concerns about unsafe turns. About 20 residents petitioned for removal, but others argued the device slows speed through the University Place area between Kansas University and 19th Street. The commission supported the Traffic Safety Commission, awaiting a more detailed removal study, and ordered staff to review unfunded projects and prioritize a funding plan for several devices costing 20 000 to 50 000 each.
