Choir inmates sing to show change and hope
The East Hill Singers at St Joseph's Church feature 35 volunteers including inmates like Darryl Porter and Michael Buddenhagen who perform with community singers. Porter, 51, serving 19 years for armed robbery and kidnapping, describes prison life as a trigger for change. Buddenhagen, 46, jailed for meth manufacture, seeks last incarceration and bonds with volunteers from the Kansas City area. A documentary titled Conducting Hope explores the program and its impact, with producer Margie Friedman filming inmates’ experiences.
