Road work planned this week in Lawrence and area
Transportation reporter Mark Fagan notes major road projects across Douglas and Wyandotte Counties. Detours and one lane restrictions affect North Second Street in Lawrence, U.S. Highway 59 between Lawrence and Ottawa, Douglas County roads 1055 and 458, and I-70 ramps in Wyandotte County with delays up to 15 minutes at times. Projects run into late fall with bridge work on the Wakarusa River and Farmers Turnpike.

City to hire private firm for Santa Fe Depot study
City commissioners will consider spending 24600 to hire Hernly Associates of Lawrence to study repairs needed for the old Santa Fe Depot at Seventh and New Jersey streets. The city seeks a low-cost purchase from the railroad by year’s end and to file state and federal grant applications for renovations of the 1950s depot.

More than 40 years after his death in Vietnam, Platoon Sgt. Glenn E. Nichol will be honored at KU with a public ceremony. Army Lt. Col. John Basso says a plaque and portrait will be installed at the Military Science building as Nichol’s daughter and former commanders attend.
