London reports a massive German air offensive with waves of bombers and fighters raining on the capital and southeast England. RAF defense claims 38 enemy aircraft destroyed by 5 pm, with 15 British fighters lost. six pilots saved.
The Weather Bureau reports Kansas had one of its wettest Augusts on record with 4.38 inches statewide. Eastern Kansas received 6.34 inches, central 3.44, and western 3.39. Bonner Springs had the heaviest fall at 12.53 inches, while Hoxie logged 0.78 inches. State mean temperature averaged 76.3 degrees, 1.5 below normal.

Mrs Louis Roebke 88 Holton Kansas mother in law of William Volker Kansas City philanthropist died in a Kansas City hospital. She was injured in a fall at her home earlier in the week. Marshal Petain remains head of state as General Maxime Weygand is sent to French Africa to oversee political and military matters. Reports note breaks with Equatorial Africa and unrest in West Africa and Morocco amid the changes.
Ducky Medwick hit his 14th home run with two on in the third as Freddie Fitzsimmons notched his 14th win. The Dodgers defeated Philadelphia 3 0 in the first game of a doubleheader. Fitzsimmons allowed 10 hits.
