Reduced Freight Rates Considered by Interstate Commission
Kansas Attorney General Richard J. Hopkins reports the Interstate Commerce Commission is thoroughly considering a western grain and hay rate reduction. The case, filed by Clyde M. Reed for Kansas utilities, opened August 15 and runs into this week, with the aim to lower rates and remove barriers between producer and consumer while protecting railroads. Hopkins notes a recent 3 cent cut from Kansas to gulf ports, tied to competition from eastern reductions and Canadian routes, intended to realign traffic and aid producers.
