At Hampton Roads the converted yacht Syren was rammed by the British steamship Popaz. The Popaz did not stop to aid, while the Syren headed ashore for temporary repairs after suffering a hull breach and damaged upper works.

The transport Chester from Porto Rico with General Schwan and staff and the Fourth Pennsylvania volunteer infantry was sighted near the night, with about forty on board including officers and men. The thirty second G A R encampment opened in Cin cinnati with Gobin as Commander in Chief and a large turnout.
