Douglas County praised for cooperation with cities
An audit of three Kansas counties rates Douglas County highly for intergovernmental cooperation with the city of Lawrence, noting shared services and collaborations. It cites the 911 system consolidation, joint law enforcement facilities, planning commission, and a recent long distance telephony contract as examples. Efforts to merge fire departments and fleet maintenance were deemed not cost effective.
